How did you get started in photography?
For as long as I can remember, I have loved taking pictures. I received my current DSLR camera as a wedding present in September of 2010 and took my first photography classes during the following Summer. It began as a hobby that I quickly became passionate about. After my first newborn session, I knew I was hooked. My first 'official' photo session took place in November of 2011. I was shocked when someone said they would be willing to pay me to take some pictures for them! From there, I have primarily relied on word of mouth referrals. I'm so thankful for every experience I have behind the camera. I learn something new just about every time I pick it up.
What is your favorite thing to photograph?
I cannot think of a better subject to photograph than a newborn baby. They are so exquisitely perfect, from their tiny fingers to their tiny toes. There is something so special about the newborn period. After all, newborns are only 'new' for such a short period of time. I love having the opportunity to capture those special new moments on camera.
What do you do when you aren't behind the camera?
I have always loved babies, and that love led me into the field of nursing. I currently work as a nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit where I get to take care of the hospital's tiniest patients. I think my career as a NICU nurse impacts my abilities as a newborn photographer in a positive way. I am obviously very familiar and comfortable handling babies, making a session with them go that much smoother.
